Innovative Technology for Autism Initiative The Innovative Technology for Autism initiative embodies the challenge presented by autism: How can technology be used to bridge the communication gap for people with autism?
As we search for effective treatments and a cure for autism, CAN is always looking for ideas that can make an impact for people with autism today. The Innovative Technology for Autism (ITA) Initiative is one of those programs. Its goal is to bring the cutting edge of technology to bear upon the communication problems of autism. This initiative is actively creating a new hybrid field, bringing together the wizards of technology and neuroscience along with experts on autism, therapists and people with autism themselves. This initiative includes the annual ITA conferences, research awards, and targeted technology contracts.
As part of this effort, Cure Autism Now has contracted with Archimedes Access Research and Technology International (AARTI), an adaptive technology development laboratory affiliated with Stanford University, to develop a portable adaptive technology device for autism that will use synthetic voice and imagery to aid in communication, at a reasonable cost for parents.
