hi everyone.. i am new to this...so please forgive me if i don't do it right..i have a three year old son who is autistic..he has had speech therapy for a few months..then a few weeks in public school..where all they did was complain about his behavior..i never once heard what his speech therp done with him...i am looking for some help finding out where to go and how to get help for him...he doesn't talk much..he has a vocabulary of about 10 words...he doesn't like other children to bother him while playing or what he calls playing..he only plays with cards, string and loves to draw...if anyone has any idea of where i can go to get him some help or some teaching methods.... we have hard time where we live..we live in a very small town where everyone stares and judges us every time we go out in public..it gets very difficult to keep my cool about the whole thing..noone i know in this area has an autistic child..the school system here is not so great..and i'm afraid of sending him back to school...i definitely feel like i'm alone in the matter..although i know that there are plenty of parents who deal with the same things... thanks for listening edee

My two year has recently been diagnosed with Autism and Mental Retardation. every night I watch this baby as he sleeps and all I can do is cry and say "how sorry I am." I ask God "why me?" I'm angry at God. I'm angry at the world. I lost my house, my job, and my 11 yr. old has gone to live with his grandparents. I just recieved his final Psych. Evaluation in the mail. It's so final. Two of the best clinic's in my state have come to the same FINAL conclusion. I have no choice but accept & deal with it. Question is how ? My son has given himself two mild concussions already as result of headbanging...how does a mother just ACCEPT that ?
Looking for help.

melanie, my son used to purposly slam his head on the ground whenever he would get upset. At first not knowing much about autism and that standerd parenting skills do not apply, we tried ignoring it and figured he would stop once it hurt. NOT!!! This kid had a very high tolerance to pain, which is believed to be blamed on their digestive system. Milk for instance does not digest properly and therefore turns into a morphine like substance in there bodies which would explain a high tolerance to pain. Does your son also bang his head lightly on the mattress to go to sleep? or rock , or humm to go to sleep? My son did that every night to go to sleep until i took him off milk. Hi I'm new to the group my 3 yr old Son was diagnosied with autism couple weeks ago he has gone to a special school over a month and he has gone way more smarter then he was before, he's super smart very good with numbers, computers, anything electronics hes good, very socialize boy and very loving, but his behavior has gotten more worse since he started going to school and the teachers tell us hes adjusting, give him some time to get use to it and I told them I'll give it a month and well his behavior is really much worse now he hits his head over and over again with his hands screaming and crying so loud like he's in a lot of pain! and I'm thinking he's learning all of this traits from his fellow students cause its a school for kids with his same disabiltiy and I don't know how this is going to help him with his behavior he tends to copy a lot what other people or kids are doing and it worries me so much he's learning more worse behavior. Should I still send him to that school or wait until he's more older to go to a public school? if anyone out there can give me advice I will really be grateful. thank you
