I don't know what kind of services are available in Florida but i'm sure there must be something. I live in California and we have the Inland Regional Center which is who did the actual diagnosing of my son. Check your area for a " Department of Developmental Services" and they should be able to refer you or you could call the Inland Regional Center and ask them if they know of a service such as theirs in Florida. Inland Regional Center (909)890-3000 or you could email their program manager with your question at. pharrold@inlandrc.org I hope this will help you to find some answers because it is important to your childs development that he is diagnosed early. If you have any other questions that I might be able to help you with or you just want to talk , you can email me lilmissozzy2001@aol.com Cheri I have a 22 month old son who i think has autism but its hard finding a doctor here in florida to diagnose him the doctor we went to does not specialize in autism i need help finding a doctor and we dont have that much money and we only have medicaid so we are limited to what we can do please help me

Hi I am not sure or not if my child has Asperger's disorder. My son is 9 and for the past 3 and a half years it has been one med after another.. It wasn't intill he started his new school, that I even heard of this disorder. But it really sounds like him. He is a smart boy. he is just unable to handle socail situations. I have been told that he has ADHD, Bipolar. mood disorders. amd a few more I cannot spell. He has been on so many different medications, and I just do not know how long his poor body can take all the changes. I brought up this to his doctor and he just shuned me like nope he don't got that. and increased his other meds he is currently taking. I ask for help. but because he can learn at the same pace as the other kids I get denied. Where do I turn? Hello to all, I'm Cat and I have a son age 9 just diagnosid with autism. We have been receiving services at school for about a year. He has trouble with social language but does well academically, equal to his peers. Originally we thought of asperger's but the nurologist now thinks there is more involvement, probably PDD-NOS. (whetever that is) anyone that has a similar experience please respond because I feel alone in this!! Thanks in advance for any help/support!!

cat, You are not alone! There are more and more case's of children being diagnosed with some type of nurological disorder every day. PDD=pervasive development disorder (or) NOS=not otherwise specified meaning that they arn't sure which catagory he falls in. You see since there are no actual medical test's that diagnose autism, they have to rely on catagorizing all the symptoms your child display's and then add them up based on there reports of other diagnosed cases to see which catagory of symptoms your child falls into. My son Jimmy age 7 next month has been diagnossed with(ASD)&(ODD) which in english is - Autistic spectrum disorder & Oppisitional defient disorder. Which to many people is still not in plain english lol. but (ODD) is just what it sounds like it means my son is defient to do what you ask and he does the oppisite of what you ask. lol (ASD) means that he falls into the catagory of the autistic spectrum disorder but does not have enough symptoms to be AUTISM. Make any sense? let me know if you have any more questions. Cheri Hello to all, I'm Cat and I have a son age 9 just diagnosid with autism. We have been receiving services at school for about a year. Paula, What happens if he is not on meds? many people have told me that i should put my son on meds to make my life easier but i have resisted doing so , so far , but thats not to say that i wont give into doing so in the future. I just take one day at a time. As for your sons diagnosses he needs to be tested based on his symptoms combined with a nurological doctor. I do not even know what to say to you about meds It seams like they help for a while and then just stop. My son has been on so many, He is the doctors ginny pig. I sugest that you research all side effects and make sure that what you want to do. I wish I would have never started him on anything. But when I take him off of them he is worse then before. Sorry I could not be a better help with this.....Paula

THATS MY BOY! Sorry, but thats my Joe.....he has been diagnosed as being everything but being rabid! We are using medication to control the ADHD with limited results. We are now in the process of changing schools from private to public. You are not alone......I am lost too! Wish I had something helpful to add.....nope nothing intelligent just my best wishes and understanding.
