hi everyone, i am leelu the mother of Dillon. Dillon is a very nearly 5 yr old child with autism. we have known about Dillon's autism for 1 year now. he has started at a school that helps children with special needs and seems to be doing well. just lately though i have been feeling that maybe i could be doing more for Dillon at home. he has been close to speaking for awhile now but does not seem to quite get there. he mimics words and will now sing a few nursery rhymes to himself (this is new) i cant help thinking i would have more luck at home with his speech if only i could find some tried and tested approaches. so , i would be grateful for any input on this matter or even just a hi. Dillon is a delightful little boy full of love and smiles.

Leelu nice to meet you. My name is Cheri. I am the mother of Jimmy who will be 8 yrs old in March. You can check with those that hold your IEP (individual education program) they might have an additional speech therapy class available to you. It sounds like the school is all ready helping though if he is all ready showing improvment in his speech paterns. my son was verbal when he started school but he spoke in echolalia (meaning repeat whats heard without any true meaning of the context). He does still say alot of lil phrases out of context in his imagination skills but can also hold a two way back and forth conversation now.
