Hi all!
I'm just joining the group here because I'm desperate for guidance for my son who has been diagnosed with autism. He is about to turn 5 in January and although he was given a diagnosis of autism when he just over the age of 2, where I just moved from didn't give any support for autism. I begged, pleaded, and cried for intervention and got very little. I've been trying to find more and more information about it. However, even where I am now doesn't have a whole lot of help. Although, I admit my son has made amazing steps in progress in the past year, I still feel as though there should be more out there. And I'm totally in the dark as to what I should look for, what to ask for....anything. He is currently getting speech therapy once a week, occupational therapy twice a week, and will soon be starting physical therapy for some newly discovered problems. The child NEVER sleeps (even though his child psychologist has us giving him 6 mg of Rozerum each night), he won't eat (unless it's cheese, fries, or chicken nuggets). I want to try the gluten free diet, but worry how I'll get him to eat when I can't get him to eat now. Plus, with my not so big income I can't afford a lot of the things in the gluten free diet. Plus, being his mouth is one of his over sensitive areas, it's a nightmare. I'm beyond frustrated and to the point of crying because I feel like I'm a bad mom for not being able to find help out there when I don't know where to look or turn. Do y'all have any suggestions? Thanks!
