Hello! In my work, I help community groups, non-profit organizations, and schools design playgrounds. I work to make these playgrounds as “usable” as possible for all children.
I find that the groups who are building accessible playgrounds, want to get advice from the experts in the disability field, they don’t consider the experts the parents. I know that the only experts that count as the ones taking their child to the playground—the parents.
I am parent of a child with global development delays. So I understand the needs of someone using a wheelchair. My child does not have autism, so I will not presume that I know what aspects of a playground will make a trip to the playground more successful. Therefore, I am conducting a survey (very short) to collect information, from you, the parent. I can promise you that the information that I collect will be used to make playgrounds better for all children. I would greatly appreciate it if you would help spread the word about the survey.
