Hi, new to this group. I have a 5 year old daughter who was diagnosed with mild autism a year ago. She also has speech problems. Looking forward to talking to other parents.

Hello all...
I am new here...actually just found this site a few moments ago. I have a fifteen year old son with autism. I also have a six year old son without autism. I am having a problem and I am really not sure where to turn. I am hoping that someone here will have an idea or two of what I can do to help my son.
Matthew is 15 as of last month. Matthew is normally one of the sweetest and best behaved children you could ever hope to meet. Matthew has autism, we found out a week before his third birthday.
Lately, the meltdowns have been horrendous. He broke a window with his hand a couple of weeks ago. This was our sign to put him back on his meds. (He takes Prozac). But today, another meltdown, and he shoved my six year old into the wall. He hits himself, flings anything within reach, busts things, etc. during these melt downs. I am at the end of my rope. I am not sure what to do anymore. I am fearful for his safety and those around him. I don't want to place him anywhere, although I am really beginning to fear that this will be what it comes down to. But I also don't want to risk having him hurt himself, or someone else during one of these occurrences. I feel as if I walk on eggshells for fear that one will happen. I am constantly trying to monitor the "tone" which someone speaks to him...anything that could set him off, I try to avoid. However, I am failing miserably as here lately EVERYTHING or ANYTHING can set him off. Please please please if anyone here knows anything that may work, please let me know. I am just not sure what to do anymore. Thank you in advance..
Paula
