Hi there,
I have recently taken my 26 month old daughter to the Dr because suddenly she has stopped sleeping, one night she point blank refused to stay in bed and just didn't seem to need sleep this went on for 4 nights before I made apt to see Dr - he has prescribed Phenergan which we are using. My daughter since approx. 9 months old has had what I can only describe as Meltdowns - she can have a meltdown over nothing or it can be because she cant have what she is pointing at... at first I thought this could be frustration due to not talking but now I feel there is much more... she throws herself at walls/doors or floors and doesn't care if she hurts herself, she will just keep doing it (if I would let her) until the meltdown is over... this week she has a huge egg from hitting her head on a wooden floor and was happily about to do it again before I scooped her up. If she cant hurt herself she tries to hurt me or her sister/Daddy. She insists on wiping her nose all over me when she is in a meltdown. She scratches her head and pulls at her ears too... its like something is driving her crazy. At 18 months she had a burn on her back from an accident, she cried for approx 5 minutes and then it was as though nothing had happened... we took her to casualty who gave her morphine to relax her so they could bathe and dress it, they said even with the morphine it would be really uncomfortable for her, they left her for 20 mins for the morphine to kick in... they were amazed that the morphine just did not affect her at all - and she didn't flinch once when they bathed and dressed her burn... its as though she just doesn't feel pain.
Her speech is very delayed and still only says single words, if she is hungry (which seems to be constantly) she points to her mouth rather than ask for food... she is very fussy about what she eats too. I am currenty trying to get a passport photo taken for an upcoming holiday but she will not let a stranger take her photo, she has a meltdown and ive tried a booth but again, the talking just freaks her out. I've tried to take the photo myself but cant get it right!. The Dr has referred her for a hearing test but I really don't think this is a problem., although unknown noises and some loud sounds tip her over the edge.
The Dr has asked to see her again after the hearing test and will look at referring her to paediatrician but also stated that she is too young and the paediatrician will also say she is too young to be seen.
Can anyone please give me any advice on what to do or any steps I can take privately. And does this sound as though this could be autism of some description?, some articles I read I think no not at all like my daughter but then other things shout out YES to me. I know these are not temper tantrums, I have an elder daughter who had temper tantrums and issues with e numbers but this doesn't even come close to how my 26 month old is suffering.
I would be very grateful of any advice or opinions.
Thankyou
